After the outbreak of new crown pneumonia in the Red Devils camp, Manchester United's match with Brentford was cancelled.

Sun Sports exclusively revealed on Sunday afternoon that some players and staff tested positive after their 1-0 away victory over Norwich.

They had to be ordered home from Carrington, and training was curtailed.

The training ground was closed to the first team today, and the club contacted the Premier League to request a postponement of the game.

The Premier League statement read: "The Premier League Board of Directors has decided to postpone the home game of Brentford against Manchester United, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 14th at 19:30 GMT.

"Due to the special situation of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within Manchester United, the decision was made under the guidance of a medical consultant.

"The first team of the club's Carrington Training Center was closed today to help control the epidemic and minimize the risk of further infections of players and staff.

"The league hopes that players and staff who have been infected with COVID-19 will recover quickly. Delayed matches will be rescheduled in due course.

"Given that the health of players and staff is a top priority, and in view of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases across the country, the Premier League has renewed emergency measures.

"These include more frequent testing, wearing a face mask indoors, observing social distancing and limiting treatment time protocols."

Manchester United stated that if the game continues, they will not head south to London on the morning of the game.

However, they raised concerns about the welfare of the players, not only from the perspective of Covid infection, but also from the perspective of the physical risk of insufficient preparation when participating in the game.

SunSport learned that at least four players who participated in Saturday’s game at Carlo Road tested positive and must now be quarantined for ten days.

The current situation must also put Manchester United's home game against Brighton on Saturday at risk.

If the 14 first-team players are in good health, the Premier League board can insist that the game continue.

But they did consider the composition of those missing, that is, if they were regular first team players, this would seriously weaken the team's strength.

The fact that Manchester United cannot train will also be a factor.

A club statement issued on Monday afternoon read: “Manchester United can confirm that after confirming the positive LFT Covid-19 cases of the first team staff and players yesterday, they have decided to close the operations of the first team. Carrington Training Center 24 hours to minimize the risk of any further infection.

"People who have tested positive are being quarantined in accordance with Premier League regulations.

"Considering the cancellation of training and interference with the team, as well as the health of the players and staff is the top priority, the club is discussing with the Premier League whether it is safe to play against Brentford on Tuesday, whether it is from the new crown virus infection or the preparation of the players. Angle. "The trip of the team and staff to London will be postponed, waiting for the outcome of the discussion. "
