Online retailer Amazon will begin selling cheap PCR test kits for travelers arriving in the UK.

The government-approved test is priced at £34.99 each, with discounts available for bulk purchases.

The two packages on the second and eighth days cost £63.98; the three-piece test on the second, fifth and eighth days cost £95.97.

The British government has resumed mandatory PCR testing to slow the spread of Omicron variants.

Passengers returning to the UK will be able to use Amazon products in the "test-to-launch" arrival plan on the second and eighth days.

Customers will get their test results online within 24 hours after the samples arrive at the dedicated company laboratory in Salford, where they will be tested.

Amazon said it invested a lot of cash during the pandemic to ensure the health and safety of its employees and customers-including the development of a diagnostic laboratory in the UK.

The company blog stated: "The feedback is positive-customers tell us that they are happy to receive reliable, convenient and affordable testing-we are happy to extend this Covid-19 testing service to our customers through Amazon.co .UK."

Antoine Dreyfus, Amazon’s head of testing in the UK, added: “Widely available reliable and affordable Covid-19 testing remains a key tool in the fight against the spread of the virus.

"The Amazon Test Collection Kit provides access to highly accurate Covid-19 testing at an affordable price, providing customers with the convenience they expect from Amazon.co.uk."

Amazon also launched a universal testing service designed to give customers "rest at ease when meeting friends, family, or returning to work, school, or university."
