Los Angeles (CBSLA) — Starting Monday, all international travelers to the United States must be tested for coronavirus within one day of leaving.

This marks one of the new requests made by the White House last week in response to the rapidly spreading variant of Omicron first discovered in South Africa.

This requirement applies to all travelers, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The test can be PCR or antigen, also known as a rapid test. However, if it is a rapid home test, it must be observed by the telemedicine service provider.

The new rules apply to all passengers two years of age or older traveling to the United States.

There are currently no requirements for post-arrival testing or isolation. However, Los Angeles International Airport opened a free rapid test site for all international passengers upon arrival. It takes approximately 15 minutes to provide test results from 11 am to 6 pm 7 days a week.

At the same time, some travelers are trying to keep up with the new changes.

International traveler Darryl Roberts told CBSLA on Sunday: "It would be easier if we could make everyone follow the same schedule instead of having everything different in each country."
