Virginia, USA-Barbara Smith, CEO of Velocity Urgent Care, stated that their need for PCR and rapid COVID-19 testing at the Hampton Roads location is consistent.

"We didn't see an increase, but we didn't really see a decrease," Smith said.

This is taking into account the levels before and after Thanksgiving, so far.

"Our positive rate has not spiked or declined," she said.

Smith added that they are seeing far less demand than this time last year.

If you need to be tested, health professionals have some suggestions.

"Unless you are sick, the quick test is actually not accurate," said Dr. Elizabeth Broderick of Newport News.

Dr. Broderick explained that if you have been exposed to the virus and are not showing symptoms, you can do a PCR test.

At Velocity, Smith said that the results of the PCR test will take about two to three days. The quick test result takes about 15 minutes.

With the development of this epidemic, many people—especially scientists—are paying close attention to the emergence of Omicron variants.

For Dr. Patrick Jackson, assistant professor of infectious diseases at the University of Virginia, testing is part of the solution.

He hopes to see the urgency of the country in improving the availability and supply of rapid testing.

"In the near future, we are likely to see the FDA approve some new therapies against COVID-19. As well as the ability to diagnose COVID early and treat people early, I think no matter what mutations appear will make a big difference in the pipeline ,"He said.

Smith also stated that they are willing to discuss the use of these new COVID-19 treatments in emergency care locations. Of course, this is when they are authorized.
