VDH: COVID case rate remains high in new Surveillance Report | Vermont Business Magazine

2022-05-22 00:12:19 By : Ms. Aimee Chen

Vermont Business Magazine The COVID-19 Surveillance Report focuses on the data and indicators most useful to help monitor and determine risk of COVID-19 in Vermont. It will be updated every Wednesday, summarized below. These weekly reports will replace the daily COVID-19 Case Dashboard. The final dashboard update was on May 18.

COVID-19 data sets will still be accessible through the Vermont Open Geodata Portal, including case counts, hospitalizations, deaths, PCR testing and more, also updated on Wednesdays.

Vermont is using the Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE), which provides all individual emergency department visits from participating emergency departments1 to identify Emergency Department visits for COVID-Like Illness (CLI).

During this reporting period, between 5% and 6% of emergency visits in participating emergency departments have included COVID-like illness.

In addition to Vermont’s National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) sites, the City of Burlington has been collecting samples in collaboration with the Health Department and research partners at the University of Vermont and at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Burlington has been collecting data since August 2020, and reports on the 24-hour viral concentration (as genomes per liter) of SARS-CoV-2 ribonucleic acid (RNA) collected at the city’s three wastewater plants.

You can be tested at a Health Department testing site through the end of June, through your health care provider, or at many local pharmacies. People with or without symptoms can be tested at most testing locations. Free take-home tests that give you rapid results are available at many Health Department testing sites!  Testing is recommended for people with symptoms, and close contacts of someone with COVID-19 who are not up to date on vaccines. We encourage Vermonters to have home tests on hand, in case they develop symptoms. When you make an appointment, you can choose from three types of tests: Take-home antigen Take-home LAMP (similar to PCR) PCR You can get up to four antigen test kits for each appointment (there are two tests per kit, for eight tests total), but only one LAMP per appointment. You can choose a test type based on your own needs. Learn more about test types. An antigen test can be used if you have symptoms or if you are a close contact, but be sure to take BOTH tests, at least 24 hours apart. An antigen test should be used if you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days, because the other test types could continue to be positive due to your previous infection. A PCR test is needed if you are testing a child under age 2. Take-home LAMP and antigen tests are not approved for use in children under 2. A PCR test will provide a lab result letter for travel or another reason. Learn about what to do if you test positive Please report your self-test results (positive or negative) to the Health Department using this online form, Vermont COVID-19 Self-Test Result Reporting Form. If there is an option to automatically report your results, you can use that. This map includes Health Department and some other testing sites. You can also find testing at many pharmacies. See this map displayed full-screen. FREE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TESTING You can make an appointment (online, or call 802-863-7240) or just walk in. An appointment guarantees you a test.
