This rapid antigen is as fast as the results," Erlina told CNNIndonesia.com some time ago.Meanwhile, the rapid antigen test, said Erlina, uses the swab method from the nose or throat, similar to sampling in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test.However, what is taken is a sample of antigen or protein released by the virus.The sample can be called the outermost protein in the body of the corona virus.He assessed that antigens can be detected when there is an infection in a person's body.In this way, the rapid antigen test can detect the presence of the corona virus antigen in people who are experiencing it.However, the PCR test is still the highest standard for detecting Covid-19.This is because the accuracy of the rapid antigen test is still lower than PCR.Erlina explained that based on research conducted in Belgium, there were 105 detection findings through rapid antigen tests which were less sensitive, compared to PCR.Detection via antigen only detected between 11.1 percent to 45.7 percent that were positive compared to those that were positive from PCR.Therefore, antigens are also known to often produce false negatives.However, it is worth remembering that the results of the PCR test can take several days compared to the rapid test which takes 30 minutes.The head of the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, Amin Soebandrio, has the same opinion.He assessed that the PCR swab test did have high accuracy, although it would take several days to get the results.Amin said the swab test was carried out by taking samples from the nose or throat.Then the sample is sent to a laboratory for signs of viral genetic material.Then the sample is carried out diagnostic tests in the laboratory using PCR with a high level of accuracy.So the PCR swab test is said to take longer than the rapid antigen test.
