The chief executive of the area, John Lee, said at a press conference that the relaxations will take effect on Monday, and from now on they will only ask passengers for an antigen test prior to the trip and then three days in isolation at home when they arrive to this special administrative region.

After that observation period, each person will undergo a RT-PCR test and, if it is negative, they will be able to move without restrictions through the territory.

Lee indicated that in this way they seek to establish a balance between the risks of the Covid-19 pandemic and economic growth, increase connectivity with the world and reduce inconveniences for incoming travelers.

Therefore, Hong Kong will leave behind two more years of strict measures to fight the disease.

This decision precedes the holding of several international events such as a rugby football tournament and a banking summit.

In general, China has reported over 25,000 deaths and six million Covid-19 cases on its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the outbreak in December 2019.

The country’s authorities are now advising the people to receive a fourth shot of the vaccines to guarantee greater protection while moving towards the complete lifting of the epidemiological mechanism and reopening of the borders in the future.
