An outbreak of COVID-19 on a Michigan mink farm in 2020 may be the first case of animal-to-human transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to be discovered in the United States, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

State health officials asked for help from the CDC on Oct. 8, 2020 after it was discovered that mink on the fur farm were dying from COVID-19.
