GC MS stated that it has confirmed that its rapid antigen diagnostic kit GENEDIA W COVID-19 Ag can detect new Omicron variants.

The Omicron variant is a virus designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a mutation of concern after Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Gamma. This variant has 32 spike protein mutations, which is twice the Delta variant.

GC MS conducted computer analysis to confirm the efficacy of its products against the Omicron mutant virus. Therefore, the company confirmed that the Omicron variant gene sequence disclosed by the International Influenza Information Sharing Organization (GISAID) did not affect the target area of ​​the product.

GC MS explained that it is preparing to verify the actual viral reactivity against the Omicron variant. A company official said: "We will do our best to use our products to contribute to the end of COvid-19. These products have been proven effective in diagnosing mutant viruses."

The company confirmed the reactivity of its diagnostic kits with existing Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta variants through actual virus tests conducted by the Korea Institute of Chemical Technology in April and August.

The company exports its products to 32 countries.
